Yi Sun-sin was a Korean admiral and military general famed for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war in the Joseon period. His technological and strategic innovations sparked a revolution in Asian naval warfare and initiated both the “modern” naval force and style of combat.
His most famous victory occurred at the Battle of Myeongnyang, where he successfully led a Korean fleet of 13 ships against a Japanese fleet of at least 133. One of his basic teachings was "No invader from the sea can obtain final victory unless he can completely control the sea."
