Saint Jerome

S$138.00

Saint Jerome (c. 347–420) was a Christian scholar, theologian, and priest best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin, the Vulgate, which became the standard biblical text for the Roman Catholic Church for centuries. Born in Stridon, a province of the Roman Empire, he was highly educated and well-versed in classical literature and languages. After a profound spiritual conversion, he dedicated his life to asceticism, biblical studies, and the promotion of Christian teachings.

A fierce defender of orthodoxy, Jerome engaged in theological debates and wrote extensively on scriptural interpretations, Christian morality, and monastic life. He spent much of his later years in Bethlehem, where he founded a monastery and continued his scholarly work. Though often known for his sharp temper and polemical writings, he remains one of the most influential Church Fathers, shaping Christian doctrine and biblical scholarship for generations.
