Isis

S$148.00

Isis was a major goddess in ancient Egyptian religion whose influence extended far beyond Egypt, reaching the Greco-Roman world and later becoming a prominent deity throughout the Roman Empire. Initially an obscure figure without her own temples, Isis rose to prominence during the dynastic age, eventually becoming one of the most significant deities in ancient Egypt. Her worship spread widely, from England to Afghanistan, and she remains revered by some modern pagans.

As a mourner, Isis played a central role in funerary rites and was closely associated with the dead. As a magical healer, she was believed to cure illnesses and even bring the deceased back to life. As a mother, she embodied maternal devotion and served as a role model for women.

Isis was also strongly connected to Egyptian kingship and was often depicted as a beautiful woman wearing a sheath dress, adorned with either the hieroglyphic symbol of a throne or a solar disk framed by cow horns on her head. In various representations, she also appeared as a scorpion, bird, sow, or cow, emphasizing her diverse and powerful nature.
