Zhang He was a prominent military general who served under the warlord Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han dynasty and later under the state of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period. He remained loyal to the first two rulers of Cao Wei, Cao Pi and Cao Rui, until his death.
Zhang He began his military career fighting against the Yellow Turbans while serving Han Fu. Later, during the pivotal Battle of Guandu, he advised fortifying Wuchao, a key supply depot, but his suggestion was ignored. The failure to protect Wuchao led to Yuan Shao's defeat, and Zhang He subsequently joined Cao Cao's forces.
