Wu Kingdom Zhou Yu

Zhou Yu was a prominent military general and strategist during the late Eastern Han Dynasty, serving the Wu Kingdom. Initially, he served under the warlord Sun Ce, and after Sun Ce's death in 200 AD, he continued to serve Sun Quan, Sun Ce’s younger brother and successor. Zhou Yu is best known for his pivotal role in defeating the numerically superior forces of the northern warlord Cao Cao at the Battle of Red Cliffs in 208 AD, a victory that secured Wu’s survival and laid the foundation for its future as the Eastern Wu Kingdom, one of the Three Kingdoms. He also achieved further success at the Battle of Jiangling in 209 AD.

Beyond his military brilliance, Zhou Yu was a highly skilled musician, renowned for his sharp ear for music. Even after consuming three glasses of wine, he could detect the slightest mistake in a melody. It was said that upon hearing a wrong note, he would immediately glance up at the musician, demonstrating his keen sensitivity to musical precision.
