Lord of the Rings King of the Dead

The King of the Dead, once known as the "King of the Mountains," led the Dead Men of Dunharrow in Dwimorberg. In life, he was a mortal king who, along with his people, later dwelled as spirits in the Paths of the Dead.

Originally a follower of Sauron, he swore allegiance to King Isildur and the kingdom of Gondor. However, he broke his oath and refused to aid Isildur against Sauron, leading Isildur to curse him and his people, condemning them to exist as ghosts. Centuries later, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli sought out the King and his warriors to help defeat the Witch-King of Angmar and the armies of Mordor at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
