Pompey

Pompey, known as Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, was a prominent Roman general and statesman in the late Republic era. Born in 106 BCE, he rose to power through his military successes and political alliances, playing a crucial role in the transformation of the Roman Republic. Known for his conquests in the East, including the subjugation of the Mithridatic Kingdom and the reorganization of the eastern provinces, Pompey was a key figure in the complex power struggles that characterized his time.

His alliance with Julius Caesar and Crassus formed the First Triumvirate, a political coalition that dominated Roman politics. However, his rivalry with Caesar eventually led to a civil war, and Pompey was defeated and killed in Egypt in 48 BCE. His legacy is marked by both his military achievements and his dramatic role in the end of the Roman Republic.
