Amuro Ray is the main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam, a supporting character in the sequel Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and the protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. A Newtype, he is most famous for piloting the powerful RX-78-2 Gundam during the One Year War.
Initially a mechanic, Amuro eventually becomes a pilot to protect himself from the Zeon forces invading his space colony during the war. He becomes an Earth Federation pilot in the war as well as the first Newtype, a type of human with special awareness which gives him great skills when fighting.
