Guo Ziyi

S$148.00

Guo Ziyi was a prominent general of the Tang dynasty, best known for his pivotal role in quelling the An Lushan Rebellion (755–757). He also led successful military campaigns against the Uyghur Khaganate, the Tibetan Empire, and other nomadic groups. Regarded as one of the most powerful Tang generals before and after the rebellion, he played a crucial role in stabilizing the empire.

From 760 to 765, Guo defended China’s western provinces against incursions by the Tanguts and other nomadic forces. In 763, despite commanding only 4,000 demoralized troops, he successfully recaptured the Tang capital, Chang’an, from the invading Turfans. In recognition of his achievements, Emperor Taizong ennobled him and arranged for his daughter to marry Guo’s youngest son. After his death, Guo Ziyi was deified in Chinese folk religion as the God of Wealth and Happiness.
