The protagonist of Black Myth: Wukong is a reinterpretation of Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King from the Chinese classic Journey to the West. This version of Wukong retains the iconic traits of his mythological counterpart—his cunning intelligence, immense strength, and mastery of transformation magic—while exploring darker and more mysterious facets of his character.

In the game, Wukong embarks on a perilous journey through a fantastical and treacherous world inspired by Chinese folklore, mythology, and Buddhist philosophy. Armed with his indestructible staff, the Ruyi Jingu Bang, and a host of transformative abilities, he battles monstrous foes and enigmatic adversaries, each steeped in rich lore and cultural symbolism.
