The Beiwei Cataphract General of the Song dynasty was a high-ranking military leader commanding elite heavy cavalry units known for their full-body armor and exceptional combat capabilities. Drawing inspiration from earlier Northern Wei and Tang dynasty cavalry traditions, the Beiwei Cataphracts were a specialized force designed to counter the mounted threats of the nomadic armies that frequently challenged the Song borders.
